If it took Grêmio 24 rounds to win an away game, in the 25th they kept the script of being virtually unbeatable at home, reaching their 10th victory in 13 home games and sinking Fluminense closer and closer to being relegated.  The well applied 5×1 thrashing has kept Grêmio in the fight for one of the top 4 spots that qualify a team to play the Libertadores next year.

Of the top teams, only the “still-an-outsider” Goiás won – a veritable crushing of Corinthians – at home and celebrating the return of Ronaldo, Corinthians forgot that Goiás was also there and really wanting some football. The end result Corinthians 1×4 Goiás, dampenened the fans joy for seeing Ronaldo back. Ronaldo, by the way, should fire his plastic surgeon, because this liposuction he did had the reverse effect – he even rounder than before he broke his hand.

In other news. São Paulo was again helped by the ref, and tied against Santo André. Botafogo was again hurt by the ref, and tie for the 13th time this tournament.

All the While, in Flamengo…

Art in the form of playing football

Andrade has finally given the team his style, and what a beautiful thing that is. Flamengo is playing easy, light. Petkovic, with his 37 years, rules the midfield with intelligence and precision, as a true oldschool number 10, though he wears number 43. Adriano, with the 10, is flying. And the defense got its shit together, and it hasn’t been scored on since Álvaro (fullback)  and Maldonado (defensive midfielder) started playing four games ago.

In the 24th round Flamengo was already dazzling, but not convincing. The other team was too weak, too discombobulated to be a measure of anything. Sport was trounced 3-nil.

But Coritiba was altogether a different story. Their team played like they mean business, and were well-organized on the field. But Petkovic and Adriano found a chemistry that is close to unbeatable. They trashed Coritiba 3-nil, and every goal was a magnificent work of art, those that remind you why this game is called The Beautiful Game.

Sunday we face Internacional deep in the South. Andrade has already said he won’t play defensively. I’m looking forward to it.
